How to Use Punugu Oil in Your Daily Pooja
Share
Punugu is a traditional, highly aromatic substance renowned for its warm, musky, sweet scent. It is famously used in the purnabhishekam of Lord Venkatachalapati at Tirumala and is considered a favourite scent of Lord Balaji. Here is how devotees use it at home:
1. On deity idols
Apply a small amount of punugu oil to the forehead of temple idols or framed pictures in your home pooja — a tiny touch is enough.
2. In your lamp
Mix 2–3 drops with your lamp oil (nallennai or deepam oil) before lighting. The flame releases a gentle, sacred aroma that fills the pooja room and creates a calm, positive atmosphere.
3. With sandalwood or kumkum
Blend a drop with sandalwood paste or kumkum for an enriched fragrance when applying tilak.
4. During abhishekam
Punugu oil is used in the sacred ceremonial bath of deities. Add a few drops to the abhishekam water or milk.
Note: for external use only. Store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight to preserve the aroma.
